iPhone · Private cooking journal

Write it down.
Cook it back.

A private cooking journal: write down what you did, so you can look back and cook it better.

Not a recipe app — a journal of your own cooking.

Free to keep a journal. Cookback Pro adds AI recaps, Ask, and recipe import.

The Cooks screen: a dated list of cook notes with ratings, times, and tags

Great cooks keep notes.

Cookback is where you jot down what you actually did — temps, timings, tweaks, the wins and the flops — so you can look back, learn, and cook it better next time.

No forms, no five-field setup screens. One sentence beats a spreadsheet. During the cook it mostly gets out of your way; afterward, it gets smart.

Three things, done well

Capture the cook, see what worked, and cook it back.

1

Write it down

Tap or dictate what's happening — "on at 225 by sunrise," "wrapped at 170," "juiciest yet." Auto-timestamped, nothing to classify. Cookback quietly sorts your note into prep, cook, thoughts, and next time — and your original words are never altered.

2

See what worked

Cookback reads your notes and reflects back what changed and why — in your own words, citing your own cooks. It's a memory, not a coach: it surfaces your patterns instead of lecturing you.

3

Cook it back

Every dish becomes a thread. Watch a rating climb over three brisket cooks, compare this time to last time, and repeat the version that worked. When you nail it, cook it back.

Ask

Ask your own kitchen

A question box over your entire cooking history. "What made this brisket better than my first two?" Cookback answers from your actual cooks — quoting your notes, comparing across attempts, never making things up.

✦ Grounded in your journal — every answer cites your own cooks.

Private by design

Your journal lives on your device. The content you add to Cookback — cook notes, dish names, tags, photos, recaps, and history — is stored locally. This is your content. We don't receive or store your journal on our servers, except for the specific content sent when you use an AI feature.

When AI features run

When you wrap up a cook, generate a recap, ask a question, or import a recipe, Cookback sends only the note text and journal context needed to answer that request to our service, then returns the result. If a feature needs a photo, only that photo or its metadata is sent. You can avoid all of it by not using AI features.

What we never do

  • We don't sell your personal information, ever.
  • We don't share your cook journal with advertisers, and there are no third-party ad trackers in the app.
  • We don't use your private cook notes to train our own AI models. Where a provider offers settings that limit training or retention, we aim to use them.

What we do collect

To operate and protect the service, we may keep technical information such as app version, device type, OS, approximate region, request and error logs, and crash reports. If you contact support, we keep what you send us. Purchases are handled by Apple; we receive the entitlement and receipt status needed to unlock Pro and provide support — never full payment-card details.

Your choices

You can request access, deletion, or export of your information by emailing privacy@cookback.app. Deleting the app removes your local journal from that device. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the CCPA, GDPR, or UK GDPR.

This is a plain-language summary of how Cookback handles data. The full Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are available inside the app under Settings, and questions are always welcome at privacy@cookback.app.
